Phoenix passed its Missing Middle Housing ordinance to comply with the law I co-sponsored HB 2721. Research proves: increasing housing options for renters and first-time homebuyers slows rent growth, makes homeownership more attainable, and diversifies our neighborhoods.

NEW: Arizona Republicans filed an ethics complaint against me for resharing a post when masked, armed men showed up outside a school. They want to lock me out of the Senate and stop me from doing my job. This is a straight out of the authoritarian playbook.

Speaking at Build the Middle. Proud of AZ’s HB2721–creates options for people who don’t want a luxury corporate apartment, but can’t afford a single-family home. Legalizing homes in the “middle” = more affordable rent, walkable neighborhoods, diverse communities, and pathways to homeownership.

Sunday read: How has zoning historically been used to segregate cities? 1885 Modesto, CA made it illegal to operate laundromats in certain areas for one racist reason. We can’t discuss zoning bills, like the AZ Starter Homes Act, without acknowledging this history.
