I've also seen developers work magic with RPG Maker XP, but I find that to be the most frustrating version. My RPG Maker recommendation is to use MZ if you can afford it, VXAce if you can't (VX Ace is almost as expensive as but the older versions go on *heavy* discount pretty regularly)

"Its a placeholder, we just missed one" you know is the biggest load of shit if you have ever made a game befor. we have proper placeholder textures for a reason, so you CANT miss them. otherwise how would you know if something is broken or not finished if your "placeholders" blend in to prod?
