Old fart. Here for a long time not a good time. Has cats, likes tabletop RPGs and history.
I’m annoyed every time the ai offer to summarize a pdf pops up because no I don’t want to read a summary of the history paper I just downloaded I want to read and absorb the information that’s why I downloaded it.

“All the protesters are outside agitators who don’t live in Minnesota, also ICE agents are following the protesters to their homes and trying to intimidate them by showing them that the government knows where they live.”

It would also be interesting to separate it by race and poverty levels, not to show “black on black crime” but to show how much lower your chances of being a victim if you’re white and middle class. It’s not Becky from the suburbs who has to put her kids to sleep in the tub to avoid stray bullets

Where are the “business owners can refuse service based on their deeply held beliefs” people these days? Seems right up their alley, or not.

As it turns out the republicans have a solution to this issue and it’s called “install a king and never have elections again.” 2/2

I’ve been of the opinion for years that the generation that grew up having active shooter drills at school was unlikely to be a generation that had a positive view of the 2nd Amendment, and that was going to have an impact on politics when they got old enough to vote. 1/2

In a sign of how explosive ICE knew this secret memo would be, one whistleblower says he was only allowed to read the memo and was barred from taking written notes, and warned that employees had been punished for disagreeing.

At least one ICE instructor resigned rather than teach the illegal memo!

As one internet commentator put it.

I assume it’s this snake oil thing. Cracks me up that one of the things under “Conditions potentially supported.” Is “Idiosyncratic issues” which is just perfect.

Tbf I think he would have gotten only a few more hands raised in the late 80s when I was a bright eyed college student. 2001 is a pretty difficult film to engage with when you’re a teenager just in general let alone today with all the distractions and shorter attention spans.

Indeed, the worry is that the democrats will win in a couple of elections and just go back to the status quo without any effort to fix the systemic issues that led to trump, and then the next demagogue who takes over will be smart and evil instead of dumb and evil.

Since the capitalist class became convinced that they are owed profits because they are so self evidentially brilliant, born out by the fact that they are the capitalist class and must therefore be brilliant.

“President trump challenged norms today by flinging his own feces at reporters while screaming incoherently. The WSJ reported his actions as “vigorous for a man his age” while the NYT reported that doubts had been raised about Biden’s ability to throw objects.”

I said in another thread that I have a neighbor who has like 10 rental properties and THAT IS HIS JOB! It’s a full time one as well. He’s got a trailer for his lawnmower and his van full of tools and he’s driving all over tending to his properties, retirement ain’t on the radar at all.

Can we send Rubio back? After all he’s the one who derided the refugees for not staying and fighting the regime. He should lead by example and be dropped by airplane over Cuba to join the resistance.

I have a neighbor who owns a bunch of rental properties. He doesn’t have another job, that IS his job and it’s full time work. Suggesting that someone could just own a bunch of houses as “passive income” in retirement is how you get shitty landlords and terrible “management companies”

It’s amazing how when the republicans have the majority they can do anything they want and the democrats are powerless to stop them but when the democrats are in power the republicans can also do anything they want and the democrats are powerless to stop them.

Now there’s a difference they should emphasize. “ICE isn’t the gestapo, the gestapo kept careful records of everyone they disappeared, whereas ICE has no fucking idea where half the people they’ve grabbed are. See, totally different!”
