An important read showing that info sharing produces meaningful effects on support for medical research! #FundNIH

📣 New preprint from the SCIMaP team!

Across three studies, we show that communicating the economic impact of NIH funding cuts—especially with interactive quizzes and maps—decreases approval and motivates action to oppose the cuts, across the political spectrum. 🧵 1/8

Trump declared overnight that he will not allow masks at protests going forward.

Ironic since ICE and agents of Homeland Security, aka sanctioned terrorists, wear masks. What are they hiding if they’re doing nothing wrong?!

Protesters wore masks because they were getting tear gassed!

Simply beautiful - "This is not an abandonment of loyalty to these institutions' missions, but rather, its highest expression." TY for your service and your message @alondra.bsky.social

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

Too uplifting not to share - senior living community has been protesting in support of medical research and student education on the corner of my campus. They are happy to share how research saved their lives. Respect your elders, they are wise (& they vote)!

Great advice from @jenheemstra.bsky.social "...there is always something that you can do. And even when you don’t have all of the answers, you can have a powerful positive impact by mindfully guiding yourself and others through uncertainty." www.insidehighered.com/opinion/care...
How to Lead Through Uncertainty (opinion)
As leaders, we can help others manage uncertainty, even if we can’t provide all the answers, Jen Heemstra writes.

Hoping libraries have archived their data and manuscripts before those are deleted. This cancellation is waste of taxpayers dollars, no better example. #DataRescue

Well the NIH has cancelled the Women's Health Initiative, the largest study of women in history

It has been running continuously since 1991 and has provided massive key knowledge about diseases in women

Unreal

This is starting to look good for those waiting on #NSF awards. Thanks for the update! 🤞

And here's combining across all NSF directorates.

Still about 50% lower than FY24 levels, but with too-early-to-tell uptick in past three days.
New NSF awards: 978 in 2025 vs. 1864 in 2024.

An important perspective to bring to any dialogue about higher-ed - "The campuses are in pain (although it is important to remember that some on the campus are happy about the state of affairs). No one on the outside would be surprised to hear that ..." TY @holdenthorp.bsky.social

🧪🚨 NSF's Directorate for STEM Education (EDU) has halted making nearly all new awards since inauguration day.

Among *many* other things, EDU runs the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).

We need to protect the education & training of the next gen of scientists #StandUpForScience
