Some of our Glasgow Doors Open Days tour group on a street in Tradeston amid its heritage buildings which were built for a range of industrial, commercial and municipal purposes. Part of the Category-B listed Leyland Motor Co Ltd building, covered in graffiti, in Port Glasgow which borders on Tradeston. Our Glasgow Doors Open Days tour group walking beneath a railway underpass in Tradeston. The derelict former Glasgow Telephone Exchange on Centre Street in Tradeston, built by Glasgow Office of Public Works and completed circa 1935. The damaging Buddleia / Buddleja Davidii plant species is seen growing on the building in several places and more of this invasive plant is covering the other sides of the structure out of sight here.

Just back from the amazing Friends @crookston.bsky.social Castle fun day at the castle As you can see the crowds were amazing, queuing to get in with nearly 1000 people attending, twice the expected number. Part of 3 days of community engagement, including the geophysical survey of the castle

Day one of geophysics at Crookston Castle ✅

Local pupils joined archaeologists to scan the grounds and search for hidden stories beneath Glasgow’s last Castle.

Even the Lord Provost lent a hand and is keen to see what secrets we uncover next! #Glasgow850 #EchoesFromTheEarth

The area was once home to a thriving community, just a stone's throw from the industrial thrum of General Terminus Quay. Everything in these photos, including the Pollok St UP Church, was cleared to make way for the southern approaches to the Kingston Bridge.

Tenement entrance hall. The floor is terrazzo (red/white/grey materials). The walls to the side are tiled shoulder height, with plain subway tiles meeting a navy/ teal shaded floral tile and border tile at the top. In the distance you can see the start of a curved staircase, with the floor and wall design following up out of view.

The first municipal baths to offer sun-ray treatment were Pollokshaws, in 1930; within a couple of years Shettleston and Whiteinch had followed suit.

In that first year there were just over ten thousand visits to the Pollokshaws sun-ray bath, at 1/6 a time.

It's pishing it down outside, so here's an image of some people enjoying authentic Glasgow indoor sunshine in 1933.

It's an agency photo and I've not tracked down the location, but there was a strong fad for "sun-ray baths" at the time.
Four women wearing 1930s bathing costume and dark goggles sit facing a bright lamp; another woman stands with her back to it.

Someone left halfway the 1st time we ran it too as they'd not realised the distance... as long as you're able to get back to transport links / car no worries, but if not feel free to return your ticket. We could swap it for one of our DoD walks (fully booked but can arrange) bsky.app/profile/sghe...
