I’ve never been this worried about a recent Oilers team than I am now.

Only two that come to mind are the 17/18 Chiarelli Oilers under McLellan and the Tippett Oilers pre Woodcroft.

Tippett’s Oilers were fixable. A system tweak. Trade. And boom, conference finals.

McLellan’s… or Chia’s, were bad.

Wait until you see the numbers from certain California or Florida districts with high Hispanic populations. And look at the demographic breakdowns.

This idea that someone is going to be x because of y experience often just confirms are own biases rather than the voters.

Human nature is complex.

Uhh, it’s time to call a spade a spade.

This Oilers team sucks.

The bottom 6 sucks.

The system sucks.

The defense sucks.

Hilariously, the goaltending hasn’t been awful considering how bad the team is/has been.

We’re re-entering rebuild territory.

Either way, Brett, who’s an exceptional skater, isn’t skating much. And it’s showing.

Honestly, almost nowhere above the 3rd line. He’s been severely disappointing along with Frederic.

Massive talent downgrade compared to even Connor Brown.

Howard should’ve been given 5-7 games with McDavid. Yes, Howard sucked defensively, but his scoring chance creation was top 4 on the team at 5v5.

Pens did it with Geuntzal/Rust + Crosby and it extended their window.

Another Oilers coach with an “eh boy bud” mentality.

This team is a healthy RNH and at least another Podzkolzn play driving forward away from being anywhere near a playoff contender.

This depth is so so mid.

Almost like when you play skill with skill, you get more skill.

He’s 100% right.

This team has way deeper issues than goaltending at the moment.

That said, goaltending is still a problem.

But 5v5 scoring and defending look nothing like the Oilers of the last few seasons.

Either send him down or put him in a place he’ll actually succeed (o-zone start him with McDavid-Hyman).

But Quinn Hutson, Roby Jarventie and Marjala are all chomping at the bit in Bako.

Oof, this team could be lottery bound.

Why even run that 4th line? They’re going to get like 6-7 minutes of total ice.

They’re not hard to play against because they’ve bled young, speedy, physical talent two off seasons ago, and could’t afford to keep the vets they had last year.

They’re also not well-constructed, or well-coach (this season). The bottom 6 is mid. They need a scorer. And the system stifles offense.

Worst marketed sports league in existence, let’s just call it what it is.
