I often wonder what my father’s take on said anime would be because he grew up in a Cold War era Germany, and the setting is based ON a Cold War era Germany.
I saw someone refer to a popular anime featuring a straight couple with a child based in what is supposed to be a Cold War era Germany “Aggressively Heteronormative, and feels like conversion therapy”. I don’t think they realize how much prejudice gays faced at that time in Cold War era Germany, and
