I mean, I'll probably be rescued. Eventually. There will be a lot of chaos and destruction along the way. Maybe a whole side quest.

IMO that is not a valid reason to scrap a story. Fear of retaliation, or that your license might get pulled or you'll get sued? Valid concerns- and a story in its own right. Not a favorable one, either.
