Not a good analogy. The printing press systematically produced accurate copies of what it was asked to print, whereas the monks could make errors. AI is the equivalent of a printing press that regularly makes typos, and the average user can't spell.

There are of course various reasons why most gamers are not doing the same. E.g. few people have even heard of Proton, everyone has heard of PS or Xbox.

I am using an Ubuntu machine to play a variety of Windows games using the Proton compatibility layer from Steam. Currently revisiting Fallout 4. Installation was simpler than expected, Steam knew it is running on Linux and simply fetched the Proton bits, I didn't need to do anything.
