Proud Granite Stater serving New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate. Former Governor. Mother & Grandmother. Pats & Red Sox Fan. Outdoor enthusiast.
The killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis was horrific and has rightly drawn deep concern from both sides of the aisle. My full statement on the shooting and the appropriations process:

If we alienate our allies and partners in Europe and Canada, the only people who are celebrating that are Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

They want to separate the transatlantic alliance and undermine NATO, and the President is playing right into those interests.

People are outraged by yesterday's shooting and what they are seeing from out-of-control federal officers on the ground in Minnesota. It is horrific. An independent investigation must happen.

It was great to stop by the “Big Nansen” ski jump and check in on restoration efforts to the site.

The ski jump is an integral part of New Hampshire’s history, and I was proud to secure federal funding to help revive Big Nansen for current and future generations to enjoy.

Even before Republican-led health care cuts, access to care was a challenge in our rural communities.

In Berlin, I had the opportunity to meet with regional health care leaders to discuss these cuts and the challenges facing rural health care in New Hampshire.

As I told Mishal Husain last week, several unanswered questions remain about the long-term plan in Venezuela.

But what is clear is this: every dollar spent in Venezuela costs Granite Staters, who are worried about rising grocery and energy bills.

Denmark and Greenland are happy to partner with us on anything the United States is interested in doing in Greenland.

That's the route we should be taking. It should be diplomatic.

It was an honor to be recognized at last night’s National Cultural Diversity Council Martin Luther King, Jr. Dinner.

At a moment when hard-won civil rights protections are under pressure, I’m reminded of Dr. King's teachings and our collective duty to show up for our communities.

Sen. Shaheen on @morningjoe-msnow.bsky.social: "Donald Trump is playing right into the hands of Russia and China."

"Anything that splits the transatlantic alliance, anything that splits NATO, only benefits our adversaries."
January 16, 2026 at 9:58 PM
As I made clear on @todayshow.com with Senator Murkowski, there is no need to pay for something when both Denmark and Greenland have said they're willing to partner with us on whatever the interests of the United States are.
January 16, 2026 at 9:11 PM
This morning, I joined @morningjoe-msnow.bsky.social from Denmark to emphasize the strong bipartisan support that exists for our U.S.-Denmark relationship and the continued importance of NATO participation.

With too many families struggling to afford everyday essentials like energy and health care, the President should be focused on lowering costs, not buying Greenland with $700 billion of taxpayer money.
January 15, 2026 at 8:09 PM
For too long the U.S. has been dependent on China for critical minerals that power our economy and strengthen our security.

That’s why I'm introducing a bipartisan bill to create a new Strategic Resilience Reserve to bolster U.S. critical minerals supply.

With the ACA tax credits gone, many Americans are seeing the soaring cost of health insurance and are choosing to opt out entirely. That harms our health care system.

Democrats have been clear - Republicans in Congress and the White House must join us and act.
January 14, 2026 at 8:59 PM
I’ve already heard from families across New Hampshire about how unaffordable health care has become since the expiration of the ACA tax credits. One of my constituents from New Boston, Darla, will see her family’s premiums spike by $15,000 a year.

Watch below ⬇️

With just about one day left to enroll in health care coverage through the ACA, 1.4 million Americans have already lost health care coverage due to the surging cost of premiums.

We must keep working to find a bipartisan solution that will lower health care costs for families.

It was great to get a tour of the newly renovated, historic Gafney Home last week.

This energy efficient, affordable housing for older adults is a great example of New Hampshire’s ingenuity when it comes to tackling rising costs.
January 13, 2026 at 8:22 PM
Americans are looking to Congress to take tangible actions to help ease the affordability crisis. Restoring the ACA tax credits remains one of the best ways that we can do that.

I'm going to keep working in the Senate to find a bipartisan solution.
January 12, 2026 at 10:05 PM
The President's misguided actions are keeping energy and home heating costs high instead of lowering them.

I appreciated hearing directly from folks in Rochester about the challenges they're facing as a result, especially during New Hampshire’s cold winters.
January 9, 2026 at 9:37 PM
I'm deeply disturbed by the shooting in Minneapolis today.

Immigration enforcement should be focused on going after violent criminals to make our communities safer, not hindering local law enforcement and sowing chaos.

There must be a full investigation into what happened.
January 8, 2026 at 2:05 AM
Why is the President talking about investing tax dollars in Venezuela when Americans are worried about how they're going to pay for health care, housing, energy and groceries?
January 7, 2026 at 4:31 PM
Costs are rising across the board for Americans. My constituents want the President to focus on their everyday concerns rather than pursuing costly nation-building adventures around the world.
January 7, 2026 at 4:30 PM
On the 5 year anniversary of the shameful January 6 attacks on the Capitol, I helped introduce a pair of bills that ensure violent rioters cannot receive taxpayer funds.
January 6, 2026 at 9:35 PM
Yesterday @markwarner.bsky.social and I came together to highlight the disastrous consequences of inaction on the ACA tax credits.

We heard from folks who are already feeling the pain of skyrocketing premiums.

This crisis is preventable if Republicans join us to extend the tax credits.
December 11, 2025 at 5:27 PM
If you think you won't be impacted by the expiration of the ACA enhanced premium tax credits, think again.

4 million newly uninsured Americans will impact the entire health care system, raising costs for everyone and making it harder for health care providers to treat you.
