Grateful to everyone who made this possible.

Beware the misuse of the term 'alignment', used to disguise rigid, consistent, high-fidelity uniformity, directed by decades-outdated Command-and-Control management systems.

Love this page from @scottinghatt.bsky.social @ @mradamkohlbeck.bsky.social in Coaching Walkthrus.

(And you both look like absolute rockstars in the @olicav.bsky.social graphics)

I’ve been devouring Coaching Walkthrus this week.

This part on learning walks is particularly relevant- the framing of the observation is everything!

We have a problem: Good cognitive science is meeting rushed implementation. 🧵 #EduSky

1/7 On one side, we have robust research about how learning happens. This is brilliant - we're finally understanding the mechanics of learning at a deeper level.

Ooh I’m interested. I enjoyed it but so unknowledgeable in this area. Keen to hear your thoughts!

Just stepped out of two keynotes from Richard Culatta and Baroness Nicky Morgan here at Festival of Education USA.

My word of the day? Humanness.

Now heading into my talk on leading change, trying to connect that humanness to how we actually lead our organisations.

Fascinating reflections from Baroness Morgan.

Always good to see the human behind the politician

Covey says trust has two parts - character and competence. One's quick to build, the other takes years.

But which breaks fastest?

Wrote about it in this week's newsletter. Might change how you think about leadership.

One way to make anything new feel less daunting is to see it through the eyes of your friends.

How do you influence a team that you don't directly line manage?

System level leaders have such awesome potential to influence change and yet it can be a huge challenge.

Would love to get your ideas so I can share with the team. What has worked for you?

After years in Asia, I’ve gotten so used to the rhythms here. China feels safe, predictable. UK is home.

But US trips? Still fill me with this strange, ambiguous anxiety.

Is this just me?

Technology's made individual learning so much easier for teachers. But Bethan makes a crucial point - without leaders drawing that together, it just becomes individualistic.

People learn loads but it doesn't add up to collective impact.

The EEF research is pretty clear: professional development is the biggest lever for improving outcomes, especially for disadvantaged pupils. More than reducing class sizes, one-to-one tutoring, extending school days.

But only when it's done well.
