Vivek Shraya has a new album out. I first learned about her when she did a one woman show here in Kitchener. She has a beautiful, textured voice. vivekshraya.bandcamp.com/album/new-mo...

I'm back to my usual no-makeup. Today I'm wearing a shirt that belonged to my grandmother. There aren't many things of hers which fit me. She was much smaller than I am.
A person with shoulder-length, wavy hair is smiling at the camera, wearing glasses and velvet tie-dye shirt in autumn colours. The background includes kitchen elements, with natural light coming from a window.

I sure wish there was a way to correct typos on BlueSky.

"The Menopaise Chrysalis" is my surreal story about an ageing Two-Spirit person passing through the medical system and the dream world. It is featured in the anthology "Yay all queer free and queer." www.kickstarter.com/projects/ink...
The image features a black-and-white portrait of Shantell Powell striking a pose, alongside a graphic promoting the book "Yay! Free and Queer." The text describes Powell as an award-winning writer who grew up on the land and off the grid.

Illustration of a white skull partially obscured by colorful mushrooms and plants. Different fungi sprout from and around the skull, including red mushrooms with white spots, yellow fan-shaped mushrooms, gray cluster mushrooms, and orange bulbous mushrooms, with green and purple plants filling the background. A ribbon at the bottom of the skull reads “ADMIT ONE.”

I dreamt I met someone who'd never heard of an octopus before. When I tried to explain what one was, they thought I was pranking them.

I rarely wear makeup but decided to do a little eyeliner today.
A person with partially gray hair and light purple highlights is looking directly at the camera. They have purple and black eyeliner on.

I've had chinchillas for 30 years, & it was only when I got the 2 I have now that I witnessed chinchilla tantrums. When they were babies & got upset, they'd stomp around, shaking their heads while making turkey gobble sounds. It's hilarious. They rarely do it now that they're grown.
Biscuit the chinchilla sits inside a cardboard box with his hands resting on a pop tart stuffy.

I'm so scared for the people in Gaza.

I feel like I am losing my mind from the constant sound of explosions and rockets…

The bombing never stops every minute, Israeli warplanes launch a new series of strikes.

The situation here in Gaza is catastrophic and extremely dangerous.

I don't know that that's what they were trying to do. It's what my best guess was. Indian-looking clothing and a big jewelled turban. Very weird and felt appropriative.

It took me several read-throughs before I realized it was Vonnegut and not Cobain.

Maybe they were butthole twins and I subconsciously knew.

Before the music began, a nonbinary person dressed like a glammed-up swami led a follow-along set which had everyone jumping up and down. We were supposed to jiggle our tits and balls, and feel each other up. I did not want to grope or get groped by randos. So weird.

I don't know. The first part of the musical performance was great. Unfortunately, the venue was awful and I could barely see a thing. They had a lot of bizarre handcrafted instruments and were wearing strange costumes I couldn't see except in glimpses.

Their concert had no definitive end. It just gradually transitioned into a rave. No final bows or anything. They just vanished bit by bit as their music was mixed into a generic techno set.
shanmonster.bsky.social
I love their music in general. Some of my favourite tunes of the 21st century. Went to one of their concerts once. It was the strangest concert experience of my life. I still don't know what to think about it.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

I forgot about my novelette 'Breaking Water', which was nominated for the Shirley Jackson Awards in 2016, and follows a journalist and a cook who becomes a 'dead charmer' as they grapple with the spiritual fallout of an epidemic of the undead in Kolkata:

I got an email advertising a weeklong workshop in Malfi, Italy. It's being held in a fancy hotel, and is ridiculously expensive. It's something like $8k US and doesn't include transportation. I guess only rich writers can attend.
