Found this hidden door opening when we removed the shitty pine panelling to uncover the original bead board. Originally entered into a coat/mudroom used by the school kids, but it’s now a bathroom wall. Just finished closing it up with reclaimed bead board from elsewhere in the school house!
Standing at the top of an entryway landing, with an open apartment door on the left and stairs descending to the right, an opening is uncovered behind partially-removed knotty pine panelling. The doorway is surrounded by yellow bead board above, and dusty pinkish-purple below. Where the paint stops outlines the shape of the original door trim in negative. The doorway opening is covered by temporary plywood, and the bead board has been partially removed around the door opening in preparation for closing in the opening permanently. The doorway is open and the empty bathroom construction site is visible through it. The bead board in the former mud room is painted white above and baby blue below. The opening is framed in with backing for new bead board. The door opening is now filled in with a patchwork of reclaimed bead board in varying pastel paint colours, including green, light green, white, and pinkish-purple. The shadow of the original door trim is still just visible above the finished repair. Sawdust, a power drill, a bottle of wood glue, a hand saw, and a ladder are arranged around the work area.
