What if politicians at all levels were chosen like the jury service - you serve five years and then go on about your business?
Like a citizens' assembly - every section of society would be represented fairly and a majority vote gets new policy over the line?
A real democracy?

Thinking of all the victims and families devastated by the October 7 attack on #Israel.
Also thinking of all the Palestinians caught up in the genocide that followed as the onslaught on Gaza continues despite ceasefire talks.
Both sides need peace. #StopTheGenocide on #Palestine

A fee for requesting discharge of conditions on planning approvals is a great idea given the no of applications approved with conditions - many to protect the environment - which developers later request removal of in a long list of applications.
It could even stop request splitting #Stormont

The Brits have such a way with words. You know. Those things with letter that help you define and say stuff about things.

1. I've long contended that austerity doesn't save money. It merely transfers costs from one group (the very rich, who would otherwise pay more tax) to others. Last night was a powerful reminder of that. Before I go further, I should say I’m fine. Just a black eye, cuts & bruises, no serious harm. 🧵

We’ve had a great time with a special Postdocs Spotlight seminar earlier this week in Dublin’s MoLI.

🔔How to clearly communicate research? How to avoid sensationalizing science? How to make people care? - as discussed by our panel of scientists and journalists.

Delighted to be appointed Rapporteur of the Mercosur Opinion for the EU Environmental Committee. The public has a right to know the food safety risks and environmental damage that this trade deal will have if passed. #Mercosur

For years, research into the origins of cancer largely centered on two main factors: genetics and specific lifestyle choices.

Today, scientists are scrutinizing the much broader set of environmental exposures people encounter over their lifetime.
Toxins, tech and tumors: Is modern life fueling the rise of cancer in millennials?
Studies suggest modern life may be fueling the rise of cancer in younger adults, with factors like ultra-processed foods and chemicals under scrutiny.

The minister is not telling the truth -
to invoke SAF (“sustainable aviation fuel”) as a mitigant against climate emissions is misleading and dishonest. It is not possible to produce CO2-neutral aviation fuel at scale. The minister knows this.

Minister for Climate Darragh O’Brien: we can grow Dublin Airport ‘sustainably’ from 36m to 60m passengers.
Mary Wilson: What about climate, have you run the numbers on emissions?
Minister: No question there will be an increase, SAF exists, planes more technologically advanced now…
