Apropos of nothing, I'm not going to argue with strangers on this site. If you want to debate me, you've got the wrong guy. I will probably just mute you and forget you exist.

"She's an ambassador for an Ireland that would have brought me home sooner.
"Her election feels like the beginning of a broader movement to build a better Ireland.
"An Ireland worth fighting for, worth canvassing for, worth voting for. It's a vision that feels like home."

Alt text trimmed the end.

Big piece in POLITICO asking about the independence of Ireland's process of appointing people to its Data Protection Commission. There is deep unease in Brussels about Ireland appointing a former Meta lobbyist as Meta's watchdog. Now questions about who was involved.

Canvassing this evening in my own neighbourhood and it's clear that a huge number of people are completely disillusioned with politics. They don't see the point in engaging and I'm 100% sympathetic to that viewpoint.
Unfortunately it's a viewpoint that benefits those currently in power #spéirgorm

They were making their profits anyway, they just figured they could threaten the government with a construction freeze until they got the subsidy they wanted.

Just finished The Lie Of The Land by @thinkorswim.bsky.social - the parts on agribusiness and the history of the IFA are particularly fascinating. A few “so THAT’s why this country is like this!” moments from me.
A hand holds a book. The book is called “the lie of the land” by John Gibbons. The book cover is blue with a photo of a cow. The title is printed on an orange tag attached to the cow’s ear.

Out this morning with the folks from Richmond Road - we’re looking for a way to make the street safe for the residents who are hemmed in by dangerous, out-of-control vehicle traffic.

She sells papers / clicks which is the only relevant metric when it comes to the press. Her ideas are unpopular but people like reading about them. Weird.
