I hadn't seen many flags until tonight - I don't get out much - but a stretch of the A2 around Chatham & Gilingham has them on every lamppost. I can understand why some people feel threatened. There's also something fundamentally unEnglish about this flag waving. What happened to quiet patriotism?

In her desperation for growth the chancellor will support any building project, however damaging. But #Gatwick & other airport expansions will bust carbon budgets unless we can decarbonise aviation. That's a real UK growth opportunity. Where's the plan?

We need "a broader discussion around energy bills. This must include how to pay for policy & network costs in a fairer way; the gap between electricity & gas prices which discourages people from switching to more efficient electric heating systems; and the use & extent of windfall taxes".
