My art is frequently NSFW, sometimes NSFLife. He/Him.
I didn't say it was the best cyberpunk movie. I said it was the better film between these two specific options.

It was a good bet; people love these games and characters. Shoot, I've made my name drawing smut of these characters because I'm ONE of those fans! And the movie made a shitzillion dollars, clearly it was a good call.

Given a slow night and the choice of the two, though, I'm watchin' '93 first.

As a result, you get a fun Mario movie with a fun Mario plot that ends up feeling like it's connecting a lot of referential dots for fans. They meet Donkey Kong! They race karts! Look, it's the Cat Suit and Ice Flower! Foreman Spike is an asshole!

'23 played it a lot safer; everything is undeniably Mario. Every character, locale, event, etc. could've come straight from the games. Hell, aside from a coat of feature-presentation polish, they *did!*

This isn't a game series known for wild narrative swings, though.

But on its own merits, it's wild what they managed to put on screen: two burly plumbers embark on an adventure through an industrial punk city to stop a dino-man from returning the entire planet to monke. If you don't get hung up on the fact that it's nothing like the games, it's a LOT of fun.

'93 SMB was a famously troubled production that resulted in a movie that was absolutely bonkers. It had characters named Mario, Luigi, Toad, Daisy, Yoshi and Koopa, but damned if any of it felt like it came from the games. It was a HORRIBLE Mario movie.

As someone who could be confused for a rich white middle-aged asshole- as someone who's *counted* on it at work on occasion, I don't need it.

This is "It's not a swastika, it's a *manji*." You're correct, there is a distinction, but you're not going to convince anyone who'd need convincing.

It was designed during the American Revolution by a slaver to unite rebels who'd fight against the monarchy for their stolen land. It's since been co-opted by middle-aged rich white assholes whose definition of "oppression" is having to co-exist with people Not Like Them.

Maybe I'll take some of it and check myself in to a nice hotel for a long weekend and leave the work phone at home

I'm up providing building automation support for a technician who hasn't slept in two days and we're both kind of past our limit, here

On the upside, the check for this pay period is gonna be absolutely bonkers

I have just started my 15th consecutive work day. We've just had a critical system decide to die on us at 1AM on a night where the roads are more or less impassable after working just fine all weekend. Since the system serves the department that directs emergency response for the state, that's bad!

That was my old computer chair! Underneath all those wires, books, boxes and figures is a seat that badly needs reupholstering, but it's a pretty good place to sit. May end up using it as the chair for the modeling table, but I've gotta clear all that junk off it first 😅
