Gripping it by the husk...It's very clearly a European Swallow. A Common House Martin in fact. The African Swallow is typically smaller and varies in colour but is typically blue-backed or red-chested.

Mine was bulldozed and turned into a housing estate. All that's left of it is the huge fig tree we all congretated beneath at lunchtime to play marbles and such. Sitting on the buttress roots in the shade had the tops of them almost polished three shades lighter where the bark was worn away.
