for many, it will be the space left by those no longer with us that can be felt most intensely today. Here is a poem for my dad and one for my mum. Hope the ghosts bring happy memories too .

Suddenly "hate speech" is bad. Suddenly "dehumanizing" people is bad. Suddenly "cancel culture" is good. Suddenly words have consequences.

You're welcome

Angela Rayner accidentally pays less tax than she should have, resigns, and the media gives her hell.

Nigel Farage deliberately pays less tax than he should have, and the media gives him a free pass.

That, right there, is the problem.

Reform UK, which has a grand total of four MPs, was just given an uninterrupted platform for an hour and a half on the BBC and Sky News channels, in order to talk about its plans for mass deportations

When was the last time the Greens (with four MPs) or the Lib Dems (with 72) were given the same?

@mrjamesob.bsky.social If you haven’t already, I really recommend watching Chris Van Tulleken’s programme (on BBC iPlayer) about why we find ultra-processed foods irresistible. Highly relevant to the obesity problems…

Meta have stolen the work of 1000s of writers to train their AI. All of my books were included in their illegal action.

Today UK authors are protesting against this theft.

We’ve been travelling across the UK with a very simple message ahead of the #SpringStatement:
Our country misses out on £460 million a week without a wealth tax. No cuts. Tax our wealth.
