Queen is not very quick laterally, so his defensive transition may be hampered by stuggles defending the better spaced, larger NBA courts
April 18, 2025 at 8:47 PM
he lacks the size and body balance to stand up to bigger guys in the post. Per Synergy, Queen is just 47th percentile in post-up defense efficiency
April 18, 2025 at 8:46 PM
.. some his best moments blocking shots on defense are indeed closer to what i would see in a wing defender prospect as he's good protecting the basket from the weak side
April 18, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Queen is an above average rebounder not just on defense, but on the offensive glass as well. As an off rebounder, he’s not someone in the mold of Mitchell Robinson, ala a player who gets offensive rebounds by using his physicality to outmuscle opponents on the glass....
April 18, 2025 at 8:43 PM
also, Queen has a tendency to misread passing angles, like here on these pretty sloppy high low plays
April 18, 2025 at 8:41 PM
Queen has a high center of gravity and while driving has a tendency to show a bit too much of the ball which makes him succeptible to having the ball swiped out of his hands. Also, as good as his handle and footwork are, he doesn’t necessarily have the strongest grip on the ball going to the basket
April 18, 2025 at 8:41 PM
his rebounding and handle combo unlocks an awesome, rare + trait for a big - Queen can really bring the ball up the floor, i just love how calm, composed and controlled Queen is in those situations.
April 18, 2025 at 8:35 PM
Queen’s offensive versatility, passing and decision making allow him to function as a playmaking hub from the center position, operating primarily at the top of the key. He’s shown flashes of multi-layered playmaking...
April 18, 2025 at 8:33 PM
Queen’s post footwork is a work of art almost. He’s just so good at getting his player to commit to one side and quickly spinning to the other, does it with exceptional ease and fluidity
April 18, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Queen is a supremely skilled big whose handle, downhill driving ability and footwork make him a real mismatch for most bigs. Queen has shown he can take on players 1 on 1. His bag is full of tricks - he’s shown some awesome decel, euro flashes, size up and spin moves, live dribble passing ability
April 18, 2025 at 8:31 PM
one of the ways Maryland had success using Queen on offense in half-court which i think is very translatableis him trailing the play where Queen can effectively drive and move the ball. Despite being a poor shooter, Queen is highly skilled and can be used on the perimeter...

one of the areas where he could improve on defense is guarding in space and on closeouts. CMB lacks the straight line speed to be effective on longer closeouts, which leads to either lax or overly commited closeouts
April 15, 2025 at 6:37 PM
he has such a fantastic sense of how the play is going to develop. On this clip, A&M clear out the side for a slip, but CMB quickly senses the danger and slides to protect the rim, instead of going with his man who was on a dummy run to the corner, designed to take CMB's rim protection away
April 15, 2025 at 6:36 PM
for his height, CMB is an awesome shotblocker. He's rumoured to have a 7ft+ wingspan. Murray-Boyles is not the greatest vertical leaper, but at the same time i don't think he gets enough credit for that particular aspect of his game
April 15, 2025 at 6:33 PM
i wanted to emphasize this particular play because it gets more and more ridiculous the more you watch it. Look at Murray-Boyles' hands, they suck up the ball like a vacuum cleaner on that loose ball situation
April 15, 2025 at 6:30 PM
Murray-Boyles is a wrecking ball on defense. He has next-level awareness, is a very engaged defender with fantastic defensive footwork and magnetic hands that he uses to just rip balls from his opponents. He finished the season with a 2.9% STL rate, which is very good for a mostly interior defender
April 15, 2025 at 6:28 PM
i think his screening/short roll passing ability is one of the ways how you can mitigate spacing concerns

despite him not having a 3 pt shot, CMB is a high gravity player in other areas of the game. Using him as a roll man can bring two defenders to the ball and make the defense gravitate to one...
April 15, 2025 at 6:25 PM
despite that, CMB's handle has ways to go. As good as he's been at playmaking, his turnovers are on the high-ish side, and the assist-to-turnover ratio stands at just 1

CMB is way less confident going to his weak hand and his handle is not at the level where he could operate in very tight spaces
April 15, 2025 at 6:19 PM
this year CMB showed increasing willingness to bring the ball up the floor. He's getting much more comfortable with his handle, and that confidence has unlocked new layers of offensive productivity for CMB
April 15, 2025 at 6:16 PM
since New Year, CMB has added another layer to his offensive game, which is ability to take playes off the dribble in iso situations

this was especially true on the January 11th game against Auburn where Johni Broome felt the true extent of CMB's off-the-dribble game improvement....
April 15, 2025 at 6:13 PM
there's just so much good with CMB's passing. He's an extremely coordinated player with next level processing of the game. CMB naturally draws players onto himself and has the presence of mind to hit teammates with timely passes...
April 15, 2025 at 6:10 PM
despite his shootinng woes, CMB has multiple ways to be effective, including scoring from the post. At just 6-7, CMB plays bigger than that due to his naturally big frame, strenght and footwork. He's a crafty finisher around the rim, carving out angles going to his left hand
