We have spares (where we sit in the mess room) like coiled springs ready for action Incase there is sickness or other absence, to cover PNBs and to help with service recovery in times of disruption - for example if a booked driver for a service is stuck out on a delayed train.

New St is always the crew change over point for drivers & guards from services on the Cross City line (Lichfield-Bromsgrove or Four Oaks - Redditch corridors).
It’s the main change point for nearly all our suburban services.
