It's definitely #winter in the #Maritimes. It's cold, windy, and there is snow in the ground.
Just the weather for a hot eggnog and rum, with some fresh nutmeg ground on top.
In this case it's #Northumberland eggnog and #SpicedRum from #BlackGalleyDistilling.

I don't go to WalMart very often but a 6.5kg whole turkey for $25 was something I couldn't say no to.
Brined, spatchcocked, then rubbed with salt, pepper, allspice, sage, and thyme.
Into the oven at 425 for 30 minutes to start. 🍜🍽️

Happy 10th birthday to my Scout #dog.
We met her when she was 8 months old. She had no name. Was in a crate the whole time. When she found us and we found her.

My #schweinshaxe is done! Flavour was great but unfortunately the skin stayed a little too soft and chewy.
Can't be perfect every time but other than that the meat, gravy and potatoes were perfect.🍽️🍜

This will sit uncovered in the fridge overnight so the skin dries out. That way it will make great crackling!

Roasted the bones until golden brown, then into the #InstantPot, with bay leaves, onions, carrots, celery, garlic, salt and pepper.
Cover with water, set to slow cook High for 24 hours. A wonderful broth for upcoming meals. 🍜🍽️

Everything About To Be Too Freezer Burnt To Use Stew

It has Beef Shank, Chopped Pork Hocks, Goat Stewing Meat, Double Smoked Bacon, onions, garlic, celery, carrots, and potatoes.

Slow cooked for a few hours. 🍜🍽️

Nothing was harmed today but it was nice to visit our property and do a little walk around.

The apple tree we planted didn't survive the drought, the road needs some thinning out and the bypass route we put in for that atv'ers is no longer passable, but the property itself is in good shape.

Did an initial scouting of an area that I'll likely hunt from time to time.

I saw two grouse but didn't have a clear or safe shot at either of them before they flew off too far and I lost them. Next time.

It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods though.

Here is my .22!

It's a Savage Arms Mark II, left-handed bolt action. I've mounted a 3-9 x 32 mm scope on it and it's a nail driver.

Lightweight, fun for shoot, cheap ammo, and it will put meat on your table.

Personally, I think if you're going to own firearms one of them must be a .22.

I didn't slice my bread until this morning as I wanted to wait until it had time to fully cool but it turned out fantastic and worth the extra time I took.

Bread is rising again, before it goes into the bread pans for the final rise and then into the oven.
Bread isn't a lot of work to make but it takes hours waiting for it to rise, over and over.
It does end up being worth it every time though.

It's doubled in size once, I punched it back, kneaded it, and have covered it to rise again.
