About to make the wisest possible investment of time and materials I’ve attempted yet. I’ll update with a pic if successful.

Comic books are (and this isn’t hyperbole) the greatest story telling medium that has ever existed. The combination of text and images rendered with a human hand is the most direct path from one mind to another. All other medium pale in comparison.

Anyone have a particularly hot comic take?

I don't talk about dayjob stuff much anymore, but I'll make an exception here cuz I'm happy with how our new campaign for Dungeon Crawler Carl came together. And proud of the creators and everyone who worked on this thing!! (except @adamccahoon.bsky.social)

Between them and the danger woims I've had it about up to here with scary-looking but ultimately harmless creachers scaring me, half to death, specifically

I've been having a taxing year and lately have been spending most of my free time outside, plus trying to undo some of the harm in the world by being considerate and gentle with my enemies. This weekend that meant learning how to high jump around about 10000 spiders in the rocks I had to move.

Though I just saw that wiki image says [citation needed] so maybe they're dangerous after all. At this point I kind of wish they were to justify all the protracted woim tweezering and delicate maneuvers.

EXTREMELY betrayed to find out that all the Gulf Fritillary caterpillars I've been herding from my chewed up seedlings to an adult plant for the last 2 months are not in fact harboring dangerous spines, but are just spiny for show to fool predators!! I thought we were FRIENDS. I've been had.
screencap of wikipedia showing a spiny black and orange caterpillar. The text reads, "Despite being covered in spikes, gulf fritillary larvae are not a stinging caterpillar.[10] The spikes are soft to the touch and serve the purpose of scaring predators"

How ghost crabs 👻🦀 run so fast 🏃:

At top speed, they push with their trailing legs (L if crab running R) like a vaulter's pole, leaping into the air!

Their leading legs (R if crab running R) don't "step". They use those legs like skis 🎿, bouncing off the sand!

doi.org/10.1242/jeb....
Crab running to right. Tips of left and right third legs dipped in paint. The left third leg leaves a distinct dot, while the right third leg, leaves a long smear, showing it is being used like a ski.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

I've been stalking the D. ramosa by the hiking trails on Jesus mt and I think they're often found on the vertical limestone where water is trickling? but also saw some photos on the floor. D. brasiliensis will be smaller and underfoot. Others will look more like D. contrajerva bushes w large leaves.

Depends, but most are pretty obvious based on shape or color, if you know what you're looking for. If you go to iNaturalist and sort by where you are and season, you will very likely be able to figure out what you're looking at. They live in somewhat specific spots tho from what I understand.

you're living my dream rn lol. D. brasiliensis, D. ramosa, D. cayapia, D. urceolata, etc. Give em a kiss if you see any
