Here, have a goo at a #painting. "Wall, Donkey" came out of a time I was cycling past a donkey that was behind a dry stone wall. In fairness I've passed a lot of donkeys behind walls, but on this occasion I stopped and told my furry friend I'd be doing a painting. #art #SpeirGhorm #ArtAdventCalendar

Landscape format in loose acrylics on canvas. Bottom third is a dry stone wall over which, on the right hand side, a donkey looks. Stones are a very pale yellow and lilac, with blue shading (and some touches of red) in the gaps. Donkey is pale grey-blue with almost white nose end, and is facing forward and standing by the right edge. There are touches of green in the coat of the donkey and even less of orange. The sun shines from directly above so the dark blue shadow of the head is below on its neck creating a strong contrast with the short white hairs underneath its mouth. The eyes are very dark with highlights on the lids as on the top of the back behind. Background is mid-blue where grass would be and dark blue and red above it in a speckled fashion like a bush or hedge. No signature because I took the photo before I signed it.

A west of Ireland #painting to look at. "Kilkee Cliffs" of County Clare was one I painted during an exhausting 24-hour live stream where I painted dozens of paintings. I still dream of doing such 24-hour painting events again. #art #SpeirGhorm #ArtAdventCalendar

Landscape format on mat board. Very loosely painted in acrylics. The very pale blue & green Atlantic Ocean comes in from the left crashing into the dark blues and greens that are the rocks and cliffs jutting out from the right in a series of rough receding promontories, darker the closer to the viewer, with lines of rocks at their bottoms. There is also a low streak of very dark blue and alizarin, almost black, rocks running horizontally in the foreground. The sky is wine-coloured, and the water is streaked with the under-painting of reds and yellows as well as the white highlights of the surf in streaks and splashes. Painting was photographed before I added my signature.

A #painting from a series I did of a bay in the west of Ireland. "Bertraghboy Bay 5" came out of a day cycling in Connemara where I was on a high from the incessant beauty of it all as every bay and mountain came into view. #art #SpeirGhorm #ArtAdventCalendar

Landscape format mat board painted in loose very heavily textured acrylics creating broken effects all over. A blue bay comes in from the left. In the foreground is clumpy green grass with specks of blue, yellow, white and red, and black rocks. On far side of bay is a ridge of low hills, in pale olive and lilac with, low down, a cluster of turquoise trees holding a scattering of white cottages - little more than dots or tiny triangles of their gable ends. Nearer than them, on the right side an orange hill slopes down to lines of black and orange rocks in the water. Behind the hills are two pyramidal rounded peaked mountains in pale blue. An Irish #painting to have a goo at. "Carrick-on-Shannon" came out of a cycle to the County Leitrim town where I started the day in Boyle and finished it in County Longford. I painted it because I like road markings - and days with green skies. #art #SpeirGhorm #ArtAdventCalendar

Landscape format, loosely painted on canvas. Flat white roundabout junction. Street from left bends into street straight ahead and as it goes into the right half of the painting it bends further left back behind itself. Buildings are 2 and 3 stories, joined together, with shop fronts at street level. They are mostly light blue or white, with one red halfway up the left side, and one yellow at the far end of the right side. Corner bricks of contrasting colours feature on several buildings. Roofs are various blues from mid to very dark. Beginning of the word coffee, is over the window on the gable end of the white corner building at the near end of the right side. Sky is a painterly lime sliced by a soft dark overhead wire, street surface is orange in left foreground with yellow box markings, green as it goes right past the white roundabout, and blue straight ahead beyond the roundabout. Here, a #painting to look at. "Lilac Sheep" I painted because, well I like sheep. And their shapes. And for a wonderful moment in my life I lived among them. This went to a good home many years ago. #art #SpeirGhorm #ArtAdventCalendar

Bottom half is a field of yellows similarly painted by knife and flecked with small touches of blue and red, and with bits of green showing in places. Three sheep stand in the field, their bottom halves contrasting with the yellow, their top halves with the sky. They are lilac with black heads, their bodies painted in broad expressive brushstrokes, their heads, legs and outlines painted in very dark blue, almost black, with palette knife making angular lines and edges. Beyond shape, which show ears, there are no features visible on the dark faces. The left sheep is facing forwards, the middle one is side on turned to the right but head turned to face viewer, and the one on right is further away, facing forwards with head down grazing. The hard edge horizon of field to sky behind the torsos of the sheep rises a little from left to right.

A #painting from another life. "Donegal Cottage II" - Where I lived when myself and my dog would talk and walk for hours. There was no hill to give this view, nor hot air balloon handy, so I did what I do when I need to look down and simply floated up there in my head. #art #SpeirGhorm #ArtYear

A #painting. "Chapelizod", a mixed media piece I did during a long weekend a couple of years back where I traveled all over County Dublin doing sketches on location. For this neigbourhood next door I steered my bike downhill then stood sketching between vehicles and showers. #ArtYear #Speirghorm
