Overshoot is here.
Uncertainty is the new normal.
We can’t wait for perfect models before we act.
Adaptation must evolve—especially 4 the most exposed.

EQUITY isn’t charity; it’s the foundation

Deeper question: Who gets left behind—& whose knowledge counts—as we find our way back below 1.5deg C?

Back online! Our preprint Adverse Climate is republished after a platform hiccup.
A journey of 22 authors across 20+ countries. Voices too often sidelined — now at the center.

Silence sustains the status quo. We chose courage.
Our essay, Adverse Climate, uses IPCC AR6 as a case study to expose exclusion of GS & POC in global science — and propose change.
Republished today on EarthArXiv.

Thanks for engaging 🙏🏽 Just to clarify—the PLOS essay =separate from the white paper-the author list reflects those who directly contributed to drafting and revising this piece. The white paper itself remains an important foundation & we’re grateful to everyone who shaped those earlier conversations.

Using IPCC AR6 WGII as a case study, we document lived experiences of exclusion—opaque author selection, ignored voices, & resource inequities. These aren’t just IPCC issues; they’re systemic in science

Our new paper, “Adverse Climate,” reveals how systemic barriers limit Global South, POC, & women’s voices in #IPCC AR6. As a Global South woman of color & AR7 CLA, I’m proud to lead this call for #ClimateEquity. Read it: doi.org/10.31223/X59...

In 2018, 25 young people with the support of NGO Dejusticia took the Colombian government to court arguing that their right to a healthy environment was under threat from deforestation. They won, in an judgment that went further than they could have hoped. But did the court ruling change anything?
'The kids that demanded accountability': Colombian future generations lawsuit seven years on
The end of 2016 was a big moment in Colombian history. A landmark peace deal between the government and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) had finally been signed, ending South America’s lo...

Encouraging - but the caveat no one’s talking about= robust attribution science impossible sans historical climate/obs data - which are not available within majority of vulnerable nations already @ front lines of climate impacts —> accountability will remain limited for most part to the global north

Delta Merner @ucs.org on this critical climate accountability precedent: The court "recognized that companies may be held legally responsible for climate damages tied to their emissions. The ruling confirmed that climate science can provide a basis for legal liability..." www.ucs.org/about/news/r...

Today a German court ruled on a lawsuit filed by Peruvian farmer Saúl Luciano Lliuya against fossil fuel company RWE, seeking accountability for climate change-related damage. While the court dismissed the specific claim, it affirmed that emitters of global warming pollution can be held liable.
Peruvian farmer's decade-long climate battle against RWE ends in German court
A German court has ruled against a Peruvian farmer in a landmark climate lawsuit, but activists say the decision has opened the door for major greenhouse gas emitters to be held financially liable in ...

3/ If I was running some statistical testing on these responses there would be a clear, robust significance in the responses between GS/GN

2/ It was also well received from those in the global north - who described it as interesting, thought provoking and even surprising … but generally could not relate to it personally

1/ Everyone from the global south seemed to echo that they absolutely loved the content -they ALL (literally) as it felt as though I was speaking on behalf of them and their lived experiences

Could this be the biggest climate story of the year?

For the first time on record, China's emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand

The European-Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change is hosting a resource page that will gather hopefully expanding resources on overshoot, as this research area will grow over time: overshoot.cmcc.it.

Press release here: www.cmcc.it/article/over...
Overshoot: what does it mean to exceed and return to 1.5 ºC?
A resource to understand overshoot in the context of the science-policy interface
