Thinking about this cool detail from one of my favorite games, 13 Sentinels. It does a lot to make the '80s Japan setting feel faithful, including styling the in-game idol Miyuki Inaba after the real world Minako Honda. Her "Seaside Vacation" LP is a visual reference to the 1985 album M'Syndrome!!

looking at scans of furoku stickers included in Ciao!, the magazine Utena was published in. Chiho Saito originally intended to draw Utena as a blonde and that made its way onto some early promotional materials. she looks really cute with this color scheme!

just learned something interesting!!! apparently five volumes of this were published in a bilingual eng/jp edition with annotations for cultural context. seems so perfect to use 4koma as a learning tool. I found a good deal on a set of these so I bought them ehehehe
