Do you study plant functional traits, but are limited only to #VegetativeTraits due to the lack of standardized protocols for #RegenerativeTraits?

You don't need to struggle—our new handbook with standardized methods is now available as a preprint doi.org/10.32942/X27...

Our latest study confirms that Martynia annua (an invasive species) produces physiologically dormant seeds; its woody endocarp does not prevent water uptake, but delays germination, and seeds remain viable for over a year, fueling their invasive potential.

Snow, fire and drought: How alpine and treeline soil seed banks are affected by simulated climate change by jeronimovazquez.bsky.social & Susanna Venn in @annbot.bsky.social

#PlantScience
Climate change-driven shifts in snow cover, fire, and drought influence seed bank germination, affecting future plant recruitment in high-altitude ecosystems. These changes may reshape alpine plant community composition, highlighting the need for further research on resilience and adaptation.

New publication.

Here, we discussed 'interpopulation variations in seed germination, suggesting plants may have microclimate-based regeneration strategies, highlighting the need to consider these variations in seed traits for effective restoration.

Important piece by Gittleman - “It’s impossible to separate human health from health of the natural world. Ecology is the unifying science that integrates knowledge..[the] One Health approach is unlimited, exciting, & necessary for the health of life on our planet” www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... 🧪🌎🌐🌾
Photo of the front page of the paper - showing animals and plants and people encircled across the globe - There needs to be more emphasis on the ecological component of One Health as we consider the problems of biodiversity loss, climate extremes, habitat fragmentation, and emerging disease.
