“Yes.” The thought left Din's mouth before he had time to clench his teeth down on it. Cobb's face fell a little, as if he expected what Din had meant to give: deflection, argument, maybe even the safety of a lie. He appeared unprepared for Din to relent. “We’ll stay. Yes, we’ll stay.” Din tried to course-correct the direction of his agreement’s intent, though he guessed Cobb didn't buy it for a second. Yes, I am lonely, but I cannot let you be the answer to it. “Come on, then.” The home was appealing in its unpretentiousness. The living area and a small kitchen sank a few steps down from the entryway. Of the modest furnishings, there was a rust-coloured couch where Cobb made the suggestion of setting the child to sleep more soundly. In an oddly parental gesture, Cobb even fetched a spare blanket and tucked it around the child himself. He gestured silently for Din to follow him to a narrow room that housed the sonic shower.

Notes from the Shen Shen/Ye Baiyi/Xie'er Disco Elysium crossover nobody asked for. Not even me. But when have I ever asked for any of the ideas that flourish like dandelions in cracked pavement?

(Mild spoiler for one thing in Disco Elysium.)
Shen Shen could hear them in the shower. “I backed my car through the fence,” Ye Baiyi said. “Did you?” Xie’er asked, as though it was any other ordinary conversation. “Then I drove it across a roof and into a billboard and over the river and broke through a sheet of ice.” “A very grand gesture.” Not even running water or a closed door could muffle the shimmer in Xie’er’s amusement. “What were you trying to say?” It really was remarkable, Shen Shen thought. To thread the car between two bench seats at that velocity. To hit shell-cracked pavement at a perfect slant. To launch skyward, land on the roof, fly off the other side into a butter billboard, ride it down to the far bank of the river. To somehow control the car off that billboard, off that pier, only to spin out over thin ice. To not drown, after all that. An impossible string of luck that proved its genius. He pretended to be asleep when they came out again, letting the room fill with warm steam.

Since I was having so many problems with edges on these small textured papers, for this one I busted out my sepia copic liner to line the initial sketch. But I wanted a certain kind of highlight in the hair and was too unconfident with the watercolour so it was mostly colour pencils for the hair.

Calling this one finished because I don't want to work on it anymore :). The paper texture with how small the portrait is were making it harder than usual to define edges, even with colour pencils on top of the watercolour.
