Finished my translation of DRAGONS & TIGERS OF THE THREE KINGDOMS from an old Game Journal, so I’ve drafted Bill to try it out - nine factions, chit pull, quick and violent with a Mandate of Heaven mechanic.

Learning game of SAIL with Laura. She had little experience with trick-takers but picked it up quick and we steered our way to victory in the training scenario by round 3. The constricted communication and signaling through cards is the heart of this game.

Desperate, the goblins set alight the hillside other than their base at Highgarden, and invest the Fjordland border forts. Hill trolls and the magic spear Souldrinker prove decisive and both forts fall. Responded by valkyries and even a drakken are not enough and the young kingdom is lost.

That game ended when a second failed state arose in West Africa. New game - we’ve made it to the 2020s with a near-US/EU hegemony but the wheels are coming if. Central and South America are slipping away; Russia controls the Middle East; India is coming apart at the seams.

WAR & PEACE 7th (!!} edition — I have thoughts, and they are decidedly mixed. It’s an old game (45 years!) but with some merit. Despite all the iteration, all the upgrades are in the wrong places. The rules consistently refer to previous editions graphics, for example. Just disappointing.
