Harder to do wheelies, but way easier to kill someone by goofing off.

I'd rather kids have less mass behind them when their brains are still developing. Wheelies are a good way for kids to test safety boundaries, speeding in cars-not so much.

the irony is, they seem to prefer putting kids who want to do wheelies into cars as drivers... cause that will totally make everyone safer.

"New York City's Department of Transportation (DOT) budget for pavement improvements and repairs, according to the FY26 Preliminary Budget, includes $1.46 billion annually for street resurfacing"

They spend more than twice that creating free spaces for people to drive. Move people, not cars.

On top of that, prop 13 turns California single family houses into single resident houses over time. Having actual families in them would at least triple our suburban density without lifting a hammer.

I think center lines are actually bad traffic design in most places they are used. If someone can't stay on their side of the road without them, they shouldn't be driving.

One time a car decided to give less passing distance to my 3 year old on a bike on the opposite side of the road than they gave to the garbage truck in their lane. Space given seems to be proportional to the potential damage to their car, not safety.

I don't use Instagram. Do they have any other contact method? I looked but couldn't find an email address or even a web form.

An acquaintance in high school killed a 5 year old riding a bike to school because they didn't defrost their car windows. It may have been a formative anti car moment for me as she did something considered normal and ruined multiple lives

And I think it ignores the real purpose of the trees. The shade and carbon capture are great, don't get me wrong, but their full purpose is met by being the food and shelter for the large bulk of the food web. Without native trees, insect populations decline, which reduces bird numbers.

My current question is: why do cars get 6 protected light cycles at even moderately sized intersections, but pedestrians (and bikes that don't feel safe joining the traffic lanes) don't get ANY!
February 13, 2025 at 7:20 PM
I think that is a matter of perspective and location. In Mountain View we have more acres of street pavement than park and natural space (almost 2x), but people still want to pave the creeks for bike lanes. Take more space from cars instead of from nature!

Sometimes animals need quiet, private spaces as well. Imagine if we said that no one should have a bedroom because it was a waste of space!

That didn't look like an accident.

Uhhh, don't forget that London is not in an earthquake zone. Stone and brick, which now make up a majority of London construction are not structurally sound in California. Don't make the mistake of oversimplifying commonalities between problems/solutions in varying contexts.
