All beings tremble before violence.
All fear death.
All love life.
See yourself in others.
Then whom can you hurt?
What harm can you do?
Had such a hearty #vegan meal at the Water Witch canal side pub in Lancaster - cauliflower & spinach pie, a bounty of veg, humongous chips and lashings of gravy. That'll keep the cold out 😂

Why not pair with their Baphomet incense burner?

Glorious views from the churchyard.

A charming 15th century stained glass window of St Catherine (with a spiked breaking wheel - legend says she was condemned to execution by this gruesome device, but it broke upon her touch).

Also spotted some Green Man carvings in the church, the nose of one looking very testicular!

The Four Stones, near Old Radnor. Up the road in Old Randor, is the marvelous St Stephen's Church, with it's massive pre-Norman font. Some believe that the font is made from a fifth stone from this group #StandingStoneSunday

I was so hoping that Christopher Lee's character was the Dark Lord himself and consumed all the souls.

12th century doorway, Church of St Mary, Astley. I didn't intend to stop here as was just passing through... but my Romanesque-senses were tingling 😂

Uncovered during restoration in 1860 by Gilbert Scott, a 13th century mural depicting the 'Wheel of Life' (the ten ages of life).

Inside, the door is flanked with these handsome carved capitals - foliates?

The impressive 12th century west doorway of Leominster Priory Church, with decoration believed to be by the same masons who worked at the outstanding Church of St Mary and St David in Kilpeck.

The cloisters at Worcester Cathedral.

The utterly glorious Saint Wulfstan’s crypt, Worcester Cathedral. Building commenced in 1084 and it is thought that Saxon material from an earlier building was reused here.

The tomb of John, King of England (b. 1166, d. 1216), Worcester Cathedral. The oldest royal effigy in England, with niches where semiprecious gemstones were once housed. Curiously, a lion sits at his feet, biting his unsheathed sword.

I had the pleasure to eat at Little Bento Box in Worcester this weekend - a lovely vegan restaurant and well worth a visit 😋

The impressive Norman doorway was described by Pevsner as "sumptuous and barbaric". A delightful sight!

St Cuthbert's church, Great Salkeld. A fortified church with a magnificent pele tower.

Just a short drive away is another church dedicated to St Kentigern, in Castle Sowerby. This remote 12th century church is surrounded by stunning Cumbrian countryside.

Apparent Saxon sundial...

Reset Norman beakhead moulding in the South porch. Inside, Norman voussoirs above a window, also looking to be reset from elsewhere in the church.

St Kentigern's Church, Caldbeck. Originally coming from Glasgow, it's a wee reminder of home to see St Kentigern/Mungo outwith Scotland.
