The Byzantines used the crescent moon as a symbol for the Virgin Mary (adapted from Diana), and the Turks borrowed the symbol after the 1453 conquest. Nice nod to iconographic history if you ask me.

it's sometimes hard to distinguish between a poor plan well executed and a good plan poorly executed, but in this case it feels like a poor plan poorly executed.

I remember being blown away by Love- which was iirc the first time the music was really remastered to modern standards, AND creative/fun/cool. Listening to Anthology is by contrast- what? interesting?

One challenge is that that for spies (like 'tecs in policiers) the plot is "a job" which means you have to shoehorn in your Hollywood "Hero's Journey" personal stakes, which would, in turn, typically/realistically get your protagonist disqualified from being assigned the job in the first place...

~1970 is about when it ceased to be plausible for someone alive to say "as James Madison told my uncle" or equivalent- ie. about the time it got very hard to claim any real direct knowledge... #makesyouthink
