Lord, what fools these mortals be!
staggering to look at the platform Jesse Jackson, RiP, ran on 1984 and '88, you could cut and paste most of it and have a rational run at the primary in 2028. #40+years #nothingchanges

I keep (still) seeing Adam Smith huggers hanker for a return to the gold standard. I wonder if they realize that means a governmentally fixed price of gold, which in terms means capital controls?

So Trump just received a $100M gift from a foreign politician?

That's the Emoluments Clause right there- no?

#EnglishEnglish Are we coining enough new slang for this era? There should be a geoff of the World Cup would be more subversive and harder for the irony-free side of the pond to parse.

Oil, as I understand it, is typically sold net 30 days. So how can the US Government already have *received* $500M for Venezuelan oil? Who has paid and why (and for what- is the oil delivered?)

It used to be that the pen was mightier than the sword. Sadly today the anecdote is mightier than the statistic.

Do they call it "vibe coding" because it just makes you feel like something is happening? Solving coding-like logic challenges seems to be completely different from (say) connecting two or three systems and having them work together, for example

@nordvpn.bsky.social your recent change to not let me turn off connection for more than one hour means I close the application instead. Annoying and less protection. If you sorted out all the sites that block you, that I use regularly, we could have a conversation #justsayin

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Personally I'm just glad Obama didn't win the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Imagine what Trump would be willing to do to win that.

seeing a few "what's going on???" posts from MAGA on the "other site" in reaction to polls and election results. It's almost as if a party that won with less than 50% of the vote, and then governs with extreme policies it barely ran on, is going to hit the rocks of reality fast?

The jeans/genes ad. So I looked at Twitter. There were 6 tweets on 7/26 against the search Sydney Sweeney Nazi. There were very many on 7/27, but by then there were already a very large number of "look at the dumb libtards" reactions to the "reaction".

Was this 80+% astroturfed?
