I keep (still) seeing Adam Smith huggers hanker for a return to the gold standard. I wonder if they realize that means a governmentally fixed price of gold, which in terms means capital controls?

Do they call it "vibe coding" because it just makes you feel like something is happening? Solving coding-like logic challenges seems to be completely different from (say) connecting two or three systems and having them work together, for example

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

seeing a few "what's going on???" posts from MAGA on the "other site" in reaction to polls and election results. It's almost as if a party that won with less than 50% of the vote, and then governs with extreme policies it barely ran on, is going to hit the rocks of reality fast?
