The current situation of NIH science is a tragedy. So much was lost in 2025. Many of us are struggling to keep afloat. I only hope that in 2026 more people wake up to the fact that USA science has been deeply damaged. We are resilient, but we are in grave danger of losing ourselves./end

I got my kid a boom box and some CDs and let them pick out free library CDs and eventually buy what they like - also my old 90s stuff they find ridiculous. They also figured out fm radio 😅. They're too young for their own phone and there's a real lack of choices for kid friendly music streaming.
My twelve-year-old daughter's Christmas haul included a cassette Walkman and a Discman, and music to play on both.

I used to think that smartphones and streaming were a mistake because giving people the illusion of access to everything all of the time would break us irreparably, but this & returns to iPods, DVDs, records, etc prove that people just want to be people, not 24/7 consumers and marketing targets.
