Been reading a book on & off for a year now called Rebel Cities. It is about how the physical & human geography of Paris, London, & NYC shaped resistance / revolutionary actions as part of larger movements or moments of change. I think about it a lot re each metro area & state’s unique responses.

Yes, and it is too easy to point to history or to other institutions & say, “look what they did, we would never do that,” as a way to deflect against ongoing problems, especially wrt the genocidal intentions of many public institutions here in Canada. The complicity continues so we must name it.

On Orange Shirt Day here in Canada (a day to remember those who were harmed by the residential school systems) I had my students identify ways in which schools have & have not changed. I sent it to my admin & my board. I wasn’t trying to be a jerk. I wanted their voices heard.

One of the many reasons why I am a prison abolitionist is the way in which a carceral culture harms children specifically due to the institutional overlaps between prisons & schools.
