I sure hope we don't repeat that grossly gendered language that would erase the astonishing innovation and humanity of those who've made this moment about mutual aid.

Yes, and it is too easy to point to history or to other institutions & say, “look what they did, we would never do that,” as a way to deflect against ongoing problems, especially wrt the genocidal intentions of many public institutions here in Canada. The complicity continues so we must name it.

Yup, it is all connected & it is all being repeated right now.

On Orange Shirt Day here in Canada (a day to remember those who were harmed by the residential school systems) I had my students identify ways in which schools have & have not changed. I sent it to my admin & my board. I wasn’t trying to be a jerk. I wanted their voices heard.

One of the many reasons why I am a prison abolitionist is the way in which a carceral culture harms children specifically due to the institutional overlaps between prisons & schools.
