I would really appreciate it if you could take a moment to read about my friend whose journey with triple-negative breast cancer has rocked our world this year. I am so proud of her for her continued courage & appreciate any engagement or amplification 💕

Living closer to my son’s school definitely helps, but it’s still a huge stretch for me to do pickup & 3hrs solo parenting for more than 2 days in a row, even if the only other things I do are take minimal care of my own basic needs (eat, drink water, use bathroom, maybe shower) #NEISvoid

ICE is not only chasing down every random brown person in Chicago, they have a cameraman following them to film this for social media. Cruelty and inhumanity as content.

I see a lot of people saying that a person charged with a crime deserves the chance to prove their innocence.

Please stop doing this because you have it backwards and this is really important.

It is ALWAYS the government's burden to prove a person guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Do they play Heads-Up 7-Up anymore or naw

*bar-height (actually a good height for POTSies who have no choice but to get up & sit back down fairly often)

Then he asked me if I wanted to play Yahtze after homework time since it’s a quiet game that is easy for me, especially he likes to keep score as a way to practice writing his numbers.

I was so impressed w the way he showed up calmly & lovingly in that moment. I hope this services him well. 4/4

When I reminded him that sometimes I need to get down on the floor right away to avoid passing out, he thanked me bc he doesn’t like it when I fall. Then he grabbed his snack, sat down on the floor w me, & continued to tell me about his day, but in a quieter, slower, gentler tone. 3/4

falling off our bad-height chairs, which typically are good for me but can’t help me if I’ve had to raise my hands above my head repeatedly for any length of time.

Without missing a beat, my son got down on the floor with me to make sure I was ok & to keep me company. 2/4

Another sweet son story: he was having his daily snack & vent session after school when I suddenly became very dizzy & felt like I was about to black out after putting his new spelling words up on the wall. I got down to the floor, as my Drs instructed I do, bc I didn’t want to risk 1/4

Never forget that Dolly Parton gave a million bucks for covid research at the *very start* of the pandemic—including money that helped fund the development of the Moderna vaccine.

On that note, an anecdote I found quite funny: I was at a grocery store & the woman in line behind me looked so much like my Nonna’s family & talking to her husband in what I thought was Barese & then I slowly realized they were Russian 😂
sirensplight.bsky.social
I mean, tbf there are so many languages in the world & so many different linguistic traditions, many of which borrow from each other, that it can be a tall order! Sometimes I think I hear someone speaking Barese & then I realize it’s a Slavic or Middle Eastern language bc it’s a hybrid 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think more people should be aware of how much cool stuff Link does in real life. He’s not just a poster.

“As a neurodiversity advocate and as an autistic person, I’m really grateful for so much of the work that’s been done that allows me to be myself and to be successful being myself.” Link, who has been *banned*!?!? from this platform?

Or signs in other languages! Or people speaking other languages! It’s like, hey cool I can identify a bunch of different scripts bc I live in a place where you see them often. That’s actually pretty neat & not something most ppl in the world get to experience so I think of it as a privilege.

You can be purely selfish and profit-oriented and still understand that diversity is wildly important. It's a shit salesman who can only sell to people just like himself
sirensplight.bsky.social
Just moved back to my hometown which is still a small rural village within a suburban city & it’s been delightful to see how much it’s diversified since I left. We have one small strip of shops on a Main Street but you see many cultures represented now & I love it.

I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

Mourning those murdered by Hamas isn't incompatible with mourning those murdered by the Israeli state.

Demanding that the hostages return isn't incompatible with naming & demanding an end to genocide.

Naming the power imbalance & impact thereof doesn't desecrate those murdered two years ago today.

Truly honored to have lead the inaugural chapter on #MECFS management in the @elsevierconnect.bsky.social textbook Scientific Basis of Fatigue, "Management of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A New Narrative." The greatest honor of all was co-authoring with my role models--
Dr. Stephanie Grach, a Caucasian woman with brown eyes and (currently) shoulder-length brown hair, holding a textbook open to the mentioned chapter's first page. Wearing a blue suit jacket, red/blue shirt, and blue KN95 mask, against a purple-gray background.

Despite being one of the most intelligent species we know of, humans are still quite bad at thinking. Whenever there is an incentive to use quick and dirty methods that don't involve actual logic and facts, we ALL take the ease route unless we're thoroughly trained in the specific subject.
