Bluntly, Section 230 is almost literally the law that the entire internet rests upon, it makes it possible for user generated content to exist on the internet, it’s incredibly important, and genuinely we must defend it at all costs. This place literally would not exist without it.

Other repeal attempts weren’t responding to immediate political threats… this is a response to a very real and serious fear that social media is destabilizing the status quo, negatively affecting politicians that created the environment for this genocide to take place

I personally believe, compared to other S230 repeal attempts, this one is more likely to succeed. May still be an uphill battle. We’ll have to see. But S230 antagonism is bipartisan. And if the Obamacare subsidies were trashed… I’m not hopeful in politicians “doing the right thing”

Individual bills may fail but these legislators want to present the appearance of a unified push against sec 230/privacy rights

Its worth keeping perspective that not every bill is The End, but everytime they start yapping i think we do need to do our own yapping to counter their narrative!

So many lawmakers are completely out of touch with how the internet actually works.

We prepped a page with resources and FAQ’s on Section 230 and why tampering with it is a bad idea.

They would do well to read it. www.whatissection230.org
