NEW: A buyout program is coming for homeowners in The Hole, a NYC neighborhood unlike any other.

It’s the first time the city pursues this climate adaptation strategy proactively, instead of after a disaster, and with a focus on inland (not coastal) flooding.

They Live Below Sea Level in NYC. Now, the City Could Buy Out 'The Hole'
The low-lying neighborhood on the Brooklyn-Queens border will be the first place in New York where officials may buy properties proactively — instead of in response to a disaster.

I spent many hours with the foot soldiers of @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's army.

The MO ahead of a doorknock: "Especially if they don’t agree with us, we want those people to leave thinking, ‘I hate his policies, but wow, that was a nice person who knocked.'"

Zohran Mamdani’s Volunteer Army Stretches Beyond the Comfort Zone
As the mayor’s race enters its final weeks, the campaign is sending some of its 75,000 volunteers into neighborhoods won by Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

Really good deep dive by @smaldo.bsky.social on the Zohran Mamdani ground game. Absolutely LOVE that @jumaane.bsky.social mom is running a canvassing team in Brooklyn! Read through to the end for a great anecdote that perfectly sums up the @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social campaign.

The vote passed, though there's a long way to go before the plan to create a new neighborhood just south of Brooklyn Bridge Park takes shape.

And as you can guess, lots of people are very unhappy at the way this went down.

Come for how mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa ran into Daniel Penny and Bradley Tusk on the same subway car.

Stay for why NY Republicans still think there’s a path to winning for Sliwa — who, for the record, now has 6 cats in a one-bedroom (no longer 17 in a studio).

Curtis Sliwa Is Serious About Taking on Zohran Mamdani
Running for mayor for the second time as the Republican nominee, the Guardian Angels founder has the backing of many in the local GOP even as Trump tries to wish him away.

Infuriating read of online scammers impersonating brokers and swindling apartment-hunters, made possible by a cut-throat rental market.

Long before Mayor Adams gave Waymo a 🚦green light 🚦 to test robot cars in NYC, the company spent 💰millions 💰 wooing officials in hopes of someday having autonomous vehicles cleared to cruise city streets.

NYC left holding the bag for Cuomo's energy policies, and Mamdani largely silent.

(Not for nothing: Mamdani supported the effort to expand NYPA's ability to build new renewable power generation. Now, Gov. Hochul tasked NYPA with building new nuclear.)
