It's on the site of a Saxon castle, once the centre of Saxon administration between the Tees and the Tyne - the "Manor and Wapentake of Sadberge".

Took my son to the NFL London game yesterday at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Don't really understand the game, tbh. But he was totally made up as it's unlikely we'll get into the US to see a game before it breaks apart and I learned what the phrase 3rd and 17 means.

Looking forward to seeing this crossing the River Skerne in Darlington in celebration of 200 years since the birth of the railways. A group of visionary business men caught sight of the future of transport and went with it, despite opposition from the ruling classes.

Peace guaranteed for decades cries the Express, less than a year before a world war (into which the US came late to the party and the Russians had a hand in starting, too). Some people fought against fascism whilst the world appeased and looked the other way in the 1930s. Feels a bit like that today to be honest.
