Having a dawdle through our #communitywoodland & briefly had the company of resident #roedeer. They were browsing at the edge of a wetland area within the wood; building up their winter fat reserves. I retreated to avoid disturbing them.

A habitat niche within the wider woodland & old tree system. This #Cladonia spp (if you can help identify further please do)
is stunningly beautiful.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of UN Messenger of Peace Dr. Jane Goodall.

Her life’s work championing conservation, humanity and the natural world leaves an enduring legacy.

It’s definitely one of the times of year when our native woodlands are bursting with mushrooms & toadstools. Just a few from our Dunbar #communitywoodland today - (puff ball, parasol mushroom, coral spot & shaggy ink cap) - vital part of a healthy ecosystem

The #greylaggeese are regularly seen around the coast of #Cumbrae #Millport - resident populations being boosted in the winter by birds mainly from Iceland.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 at its best in the early #autumn sunshine. #Cumbrae #Millport with fine views over the sea to #Bute, the peaks of #Arran and 40 miles in the distance to the conical shape of #AilsaCraig. Great place to visit for a short break.

With the autumn equinox upon us tomorrow there’s a definite chill in the air. Leaves are starting to change colour and the berries (hawthorn, rowan and brambles) are still clinging to the branches. All adds a really lovely splash of colour as the season turns

Nice late season #paintedlady #butterfly in the garden today - attracted to the remaining flowers on the buddleia. The last bumper (explosion) year for this gem was in 2019 - I recall being on Inchkeith Island at the time so it must’ve been much earlier in the year.

🌾 #Flax, once a staple of Scottish agriculture, could play a key role in sustainable textiles and low-impact #farming today.

We’ve been working with Soil Association Scotland through the Flax Field Lab to test this crop’s potential.
