Hello (again) Bluesky! I’m going to start posting here again, because that other app has become a disaster.

But first, I want to introduce myself. My name is Tina Smith, and I’m a proud United States Senator for Minnesota… ⬇️

You’ll never be able to convince me ripping an American citizen out of their Chicago apartment in the dead of night, zip tying their hands and refusing to let them call their lawyer is ‘America First’

Weird how that didn’t make the cut.

“I honestly feel in that group of people where I will probably drop health insurance”

What kind of country do we live in that we can’t agree to help people like CHILDCARE PROVIDERS see their doctor?

Every day Republicans are choosing to keep the government closed rather than lower your health care costs.

Did Mike Johnson just call MTG stupid?
"Congresswoman Greene does not serve on the committees of jurisdiction to deal with those specialized issues, and she's probably not read that in on some of that, because it's still been sort of in their silos of the people who specialize in those issues," Johnson said in the Capitol.

Next year, a lot of folks are going to see their premiums go up $1,000 or more per month because of a Republican policy.

If you start having to pay $1,000 extra every month, what will you stop being able to afford?

This is what Democrats are fighting to stop.

MAGA folks, Republicans, Independents and Democrats from every corner of Minnesota are reaching out — and an overwhelming majority want to fix this health insurance spike before it’s too late.

How the hell is this shutdown our fault if Republicans can’t be bothered to show up
🚨🚨The House reading clerk just read a letter from House Speaker Mike Johnson where he declares a 'District Work Period' from October 7 to October 13.

That would mean no votes until mid-month.

I cannot be bullied to vote for a bill that I know will price more people out of health insurance — especially at a time when everything else is completely unaffordable.

DOKOUPIL: Republicans says what you're really fighting for is taxpayer dollars for illegal aliens. I know that's not strictly true--

ELIZABETH WARREN: Excuse me, not strictly true? It is a flat out lie!

We're not asking for the moon here. We’re trying to help Americans pay for their health insurance.

“By the way, there’s a lot of Republicans in Minnesota,” Sen. Tina Smith, whose state is targeted for cuts, told POLITICO. “So they’re trying to retaliate against me .. and the result is all Minnesotans’ utility bills go up? .. That’s so stupid.”

A sixty-year-old couple in Mankato making $89,000 combined will pay an EXTRA $1500 every single month just to get health insurance if we don’t get a shutdown deal.

That’s why we’re fighting so hard.

Health insurance rates aren’t released in December, they’re released this month. We have to deal with this now or a lot more people are going to be priced out of health insurance.

They’re bullying Minnesotans because I had the AUDACITY to ask to negotiate a deal to help my constituents afford to live in a broken health care system.

Minnesota: Split bipartisan legislature.

Kept the government open. Invested in improving lives. Responsible budget cuts.

Washington: Republicans control House, Senate, Oval Office.

Government shutdown. Driving up health care costs by thousands. Skyrocketing national debt.

I was sent this by a Georgian this morning. 2025 premiums vs 2026 premiums for someone making $65k a year.

Republicans in Washington did this.

This is what I'm fighting to stop. This is what’s at stake in this shutdown fight.

The government is shut down. For those just tuning in, here’s what happened:

1) We said we needed to help Americans pay their health insurance bills.

2) Republicans hated the idea and stonewalled us.

3) They shut down the government (which they control all chambers of) without negotiating.
smith.senate.gov
All because we wanted to help Americans pay their health care costs in a broken system that is about to get even more expensive.
