Today, the day of my birth, has had a lot of historic events. Including the death of a Republican President. If the universe really wanted to give me a present…

I don’t know that we should be talking about Kissinger valuing freedoms. There are a ton of Laotians and Cambodians who would like a word.
“What did they have that eludes their lesser-known heirs today? The answer is that Kissinger & Brzezinski were immigrants. Newcomers often value America’s freedoms more than its native-born and are statistically far likelier to start companies, win Nobel Prizes & launch schools of thought.”

My tiny Midwest town has a little boba shop and it is my favorite thing. Is it traditional? No idea. But the blended pineapple milk tea with raspberry popping boba is amazing.

Just applied for my Real ID. I had backups for my backups for paperwork. Watched at least 5 people get sent back for not having the right papers. Is that what not having anxiety is like? And they were fine about it?

Sitting at a coffee shop overhearing a woman talk about how great private/home schools are while pushing her daughter to utilize the benefits of the local public school.

Oh, and she’s on the board of one of those bullshit “pregnancy centers”.

I don’t know who judges my writing more harshly, my inner editor or this cat.

It is a truth universally avoided that as soon as a writer has a project to work on their house is suddenly spotless and their to do list empty.

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths

Sometimes, although it may be insufficient to lighten the darkness in your own soul, your light can eliminate the darkness in someone else’s, at least for a moment.

Just heard an ad on Peacock use “Gulf of America”. Wtaf. 🤢
February 16, 2025 at 2:04 AM
I realize there’s probably a good reason for it, but hearing a drug ad say “don’t take if you’re allergic” to this medication makes me die a little inside.

This! If history has taught us nothing else, it’s that totalitarians use these stupid laws to test your willingness to go along. Protest everything. While we still have the ability to.
my take is that your willingness to accept this gulf of america nonsense is an indicator of your willingness to accept much worse things coming from this administrator
Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico may be upsetting to some, writes @giladedelman.bsky.social, but “in a democracy, values are determined by majority rule, and they don’t shift in only one direction. They can shift back”:

A friend taught at an army school in Iceland in the 70s or 80s. Her roommate had a friend from Denmark who was a Communist. One night he drunkenly told the roommate that individual houses keep Americans from organizing because you don’t interact with your neighbors like you do in apt buildings.

Anyone else’s weather apps suddenly unreliable? Two instances since Friday where app said 0% chance of precipitation or 0” of precipitation in the past 24 hours. And then you look outside and it’s snowing and accumulating.
