How it’s going:

The free Anycubic Photon #3dprinter works!
Unfortunately I’m getting memory read errors pretty frequently so it isn’t completing anything but short prints consistently. Going to find some cheaper/smaller flash drives and see if that helps.

Rainy night ride

Had to keep up with traffic in a lot of places because the bike lanes were flooded. Also made some new friends

Free resin 3d printer? Don’t mind if I do!
A friend was giving this away and I figured it was my chance to finally change some photosensitive goo into some model train parts.
I know it’s an older model, but it still ought do do better in some situations than my Prusa Mini.

Ice cream stop with a gaggle of #EUC friends.

I stumbled across this protected (ish?) bike lane driving around #orlando today. It’s not much, but even this sad little barrier makes such a difference vs just the painted line of death. If we can’t get full separation, let’s do more of this please! Sadly it was only for about a mile :(

Aww yiss, a friend managed to get me the new Kato Model Trains catalog from Japan. There’s some charm about a hard copy catalog that you just don’t get scrolling through a website.
Time to make some miniature public transit plans and figure out what my office layout needs. Steam locomotives? Trams?

Checking out the railroad bridge and using my new fast charger this evening.
I’ll have to take another lap up the bike path and see if I can catch the bridge in use sometime.

Plugging the charger for my EUC into an EV charging station almost makes it reasonable. 240v in, 151V DC at 18A out.

Apple Maps had a recent streetview. If you didn't know this path, nothing really obvious makes you think you need to make a left there. The sidewalk continues straight across on the opposite side and there's no connection on the left.
#urbanism people, who should I contact to try and improve this?
April 18, 2025 at 7:03 AM
Interestingly, I think that's a new development. The satellite view shows it, but streetview doesn't. It used to be a level sidewalk. I know that's an awkward intersection and people probably went off the end in front of cross traffic, but I would appreciate a chevron or at least yellow paint.

I was out riding my #EUC in #Orlando this evening, and almost got tossed off of it. This sidewalk used to be smooth, but it appears it gained a protruding curb at a sharp angle to my direction of travel. This was really hard to see and not marked by signs. Somehow I made it, but I did not like that.

Doing some quick math: my #EUC is 6-8x more efficient than my electric car. One charge of the car gets me 250-300mi, or the same energy takes me 1500mi on the electric unicycle.
If Orlando steps up their #urbanism game and build more protected cyclepaths, I could probably ditch the car outright.

Upgrading the N scale model train layout from a folding table up to a full sheet of foam board. Lots of work to do to make it look like a real thing but the bones are there now.
Using DCC-EX for control and eventual automation/scripting

I may have achieved the ultimate 21st century experience.
60+ mile long electric unicycle ride + stopping to fast charge in a U-Haul parking lot + Skyrim on a steam deck.
