Like half of LA is broke screenwriters and probably 5-10% of them are good, which is a lot of talented people willing to work cheap! And still the sub-prestige level of TV writing is such garbage.

A student told me about this but I had to confirm myself: when you call the White House Comment Line (202-456-1111), there's a recording of Karoline Leavitt blaming Democrats for the shutdown because of their love for illegal immigrants.

But the main coalition-building point still stands: “politics is for power,” Klein insists in these interviews (presumably quoting political scientist Eitan Hersh). True enough! But power also exists within coalitions. And in contemporary US political parties, the rules over things like who has veto power over presidential nominations are increasingly loose and constantly being renegotiated formally. Asking core groups within the Democratic party – African Americans, LGBTQ Americans – to take a backseat because some other groups are pivotal for the coalition is asking a lot. This arrangement has implications for who will drive the agenda of that coalition.
