When we silence books, we silence voices—and we risk raising a generation without the tools to think freely and compassionately.

Because the real danger isn't in the pages of a book—it's in a world where people stop reading them.

Today 21 states' Attorneys General filed a lawsuit seeking to stop the dismantling of the Institute of Museum & Library Services. ALA applauds this legal action by state officials who know how much these cuts would hurt their communities.

Banned books spark curiosity, challenge norms, and open minds. That’s exactly why they’re targeted—and exactly why we must protect them.

Make no mistake—a book ban is no badge of honor for an author. It means their work is being silenced, censored, & kept from the very readers who may need it most.
