Being the movie geek and ham/radio geek that I am, I couldn't resist much of the props and tech used in Stranger Things. Especially if you can get stuff that's still functional, still works, and still has a use or purpose in today's world. So I got a ST-adjacent CB-Walkie cheap on auction. Because.

Just got off the phone with a judge over a hearing for unemployment benefits I was denied over the summer break; I think it went well. I was denied for not seeking work two weeks before the school year started again. Which is a ridiculous reason to be denied.

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Trans people have literally always been here; every time I see someone sneering "oh but there were no trans people when I was in high school," well. I dated a trans girl in high school, and was close friends with a trans guy.

Quite good day today. Played some Tarkov, went to Video Game store, got a new joycon & switch game, worked on a friend's car, had good food, watched fun youtube and TV.. Sometimes ya just need to have a nice slow day and embrace simple joys in life while you can.

The Lollipop Dragon - Bad Guy "Baron Bad Blood" literally gets magically turned into a tree. Forgive the bad pun, but I've been twigged out by that idea ever since. The live action Cowboy Bebop episode was a bad PTSD trip for me.

Because my job falls under the purview of the federal DOT, I have to have a physical every year; part of that physical is getting an arbitrarily 'nominal' blood pressure reading. Except that like BMI, getting accurate BP readings on fat people is notoriously difficult & inaccurate & journal backed.

If we can sell between 5,000 and 10,000 copies of OMENS OF CHAOS, we will debut comfortably on the New York Times Bestseller list, which is a very normal thing for a book to want (and will send a very clear message about what we want as a community). We won't, but a girl can dream.

Something I've realized over the years of trying to write is that I seem to be decent at coming up with world building ideas and characters pretty well, but get stumped on plots for those characters to work through. Need to think on this more.

As I begin to contemplate trying to sit down to write seriously, I pondered writing essentially fanfic, and if that was a good place to start, and then I remembered the number of author friends I have who started out in franfic or are writing franchise tie-in novels is >0, so..

Working this year's OryCon somehow made me realize that somehow, as I'm nearing 50, giving zero fucks about masking, about presenting any way except how I want to, and existing as a person with disabilities, has somehow made me more confident and more attractive than I ever thought possible. Neat.

Been watching some spooky movies with bestie this last week or so, and sparked conversations about queer tropes, horror tropes, bad writing, etc. which sparked a discussion of "You could / should write something better than what we watched." So now I'm up to two different story ideas in a month.
