We're a month further into the job market - how are things looking? The good news is that the market does seem to have been delayed: ~150 new listings have appeared since my last post. The bad news is that the total is still substantially lower than what it was during the covid dip.

We had the opportunity to chat with @nuglobalnews.bsky.social about our latest meta-analysis examining how well #ML / #AI predicts mental health outcomes.
Some promising advances (as the title suggests), but we must also proceed with caution 👇

I’m scheduled for surgery today on my Achilles tendon, followed by 2 weeks of no weight bearing.😵‍💫

So, like any good scientist, I got together 7 colleagues to study consequences of limb disuse.

Many brain imaging “biomarkers” for autism have been proposed. Most aim for balanced accuracy (matching sensivity/specificity) on datasets where cases and controls are split 50/50. 1/🧵

As a group we had the most difficulty selecting three for the award, since everyone above contributed significantly to building the science and life of the lab. Here they are in order of joining the lab ^

{truffle} is an R package for teaching users to process data.

Semi-realistic psychological datasets with predetermined effects (via `truffles_` functions) are then hidden in common data processing headaches (via `dirt_` functions) for students to clean and analyze.
