The gameplay was actually pretty decent even if it felt like a watered-down version of Octo Expansion's but I know the story could have been so much better.

The gameplay was actually pretty decent even if it felt like a watered-down version of Octo Expansion's but I know the story could have been so much better.
The issue with this approach is that the game just completely forgets about DJ Octavio once it enters Alterna and only brings him back for the final fight.
This game is supposed to be a finale to the saga Splatoon 1 and 2 were building up yet two of the NSS agents never show up.

It tries to be a story about Octarians and Inklings making peace, taking down grizzco, and also includes Deep Cut in there too but they have nothing to do with the other plot points and are just there to be boss fights.

Ok oomf this is a take that I disagree with you on such a fundamental level I doubt if we played the same game.
ROTM juggles way too many ideas for its own good and it suffers greatly as a result.
