Following NASA's recent announcement of a potential biosignature on Mars, I want to replug my colleague @fletcher42.bsky.social's work on exogeoconservation!

As they state - "There is a need to balance the greatest scientific returns with limiting the impact of taking samples."

🚨New #astrobiology Paper Alert🚨

Great work by my colleague Clare Fletcher on publishing another chapter of their thesis which, in a nutshell, aims to stop _certain people_ from putting flags on Mars and trampling the planet. 🧪🪐

PhD exit seminar ✅

So happy I could share the bulk of my PhD where I optimised the expression, purification and (so far unsuccessful) polymerisation of novel eukaryotic-like proteins in Nelly (aka Loki-ASV2).

Listening to Stephanie Nobbs (@snobsi.bsky.social) telling us about the fascinating Asgard archaea isolated from Shark Bay's microbial mats. They isolated a new archaea and assembled its genome and in silico proteome. Found lots of eukaryote-like tubulins + new protein folds

The final day of #FEMS2025 is done! Great opening session on extremophiles, an interesting discussion of using microbes as forensic tools and I've left with plenty of microbe nerds to bother the next time I'm in Europe 🦠🤓 Ciao Milano!
