No, because these are POOR people who aren’t participating correctly in our system. If they were just better capitalists, they could afford to buy their food like good Americans.

*hopes but doesn’t assume the thick sarcasm is obvious*

Oh wait! I also really love, “Don’t you have a masters degree?”

As an innkeeper it was a statement : “Oh, you must love that job so much!” It got harder to respond with the socially acceptable lie every year.

As a noodlemaker it’s simple disbelief: “What? Really?”

Went to my first vendor fair of the holiday season today, fully prepared for sales to be down despite increased fees. No. Up 20%. I mean, I’m grateful, but….

That feeling of “I’m barely out of college and I work for peanuts how can I possibly be allowed to have this” ?

Feel this in my bones. You are allowed to do anything it takes to survive a Nearly Endless Plumbing Project. Hang in there!

How do employers let this happen?? If I had customer-facing employees I would train them SO HARD on not mentioning politics to said customers. I mean… unless I hired based on political affiliation (which I’m sure is totally legal) and actively wanted to drive away half my potential customers….

Admittedly, though, I AM trying to figure out how to make more money than a 16-year-old McDonald’s employee.

I have extremely complicated feelings about AI. In fact, I didn’t notice the tag until after I’d left the comment, but I figure the reaction it provoked in me was genuine, so the comment was still true.

Fingers and toes crossed for you.

This painting made me take the same kind of deep breath I would have taken if I’d encountered this scene in the real world. Thank you.

Sigh. Gas station donuts. Y’know, the ones with expiration dates years from now, whose main ingredients are probably sawdust and plastic. 😭

Figuring out how to dodge all those taxes takes a lot of time and effort. They hardly have any energy left to shitpost at the end of the day. How can we expect them to find time to build heroic-scale libraries or tiny house communities or fund a 200-year tree-sculpting project??

I hesitated to pick this up, having not really loved Jonathan Strange, but Piranesi was another cup of tea entirely. It turned out to be one of my favorite reads that year.
